6/16 FacRep Update

It has been a little while since our last update, so I wanted to provide everyone with a status report on several ongoing projects and initiatives.

Lighting

Work continues on addressing the lighting concerns within the facility. A few days ago, I met with Gary Hice to evaluate the possibility of installing a dark tint over the LED lighting. Once that is completed, we will experiment with various lighting configurations and settings to determine the most effective solution.

If those efforts do not produce satisfactory results, we will explore additional mitigation measures, including replacing the current white ceiling tiles with black tiles to reduce glare and raising the light fixtures closer to the ceiling to minimize the direct line of sight between the lights and radar scopes.

I will continue to provide updates as we evaluate and implement these options.

Fans and Air Conditioning

TechOps attempted to install ceiling fans near the Development Room and East Satellite wall last night. Unfortunately, the ceiling structure in the planned installation area was not capable of supporting the fans. We are currently evaluating alternative locations that will still provide adequate airflow throughout the workspace.

Additionally, a contractor has been engaged to repair the second-floor air conditioning unit. At present, the TRACON is primarily being cooled by the electronic equipment cooling system. TechOps is optimistic that the ambient air conditioning system will be restored to full operation within the next few weeks.

I will continue to share updates as additional information becomes available.

iPads

At this time, the iPad initiative has encountered a significant obstacle. Unfortunately, there is no substantive update to provide. Based on the information currently available, the project appears to have stalled due to the district’s inability to secure a developer to create the required application.

Should circumstances change, I will ensure that everyone is informed.

Third Floor Reconfiguration

Dominique is currently working with TechOps to obtain cost estimates associated with the proposed third-floor reconfiguration. The planned redesign is intended to create additional break and common areas for Air Traffic Control Specialists throughout the building, improving the availability of employee space and overall facility functionality.

Further details will be provided as the project develops and cost information becomes available.

Split

We continue to engage with management to determine the most effective path forward for the facility. While discussions have been productive, several important questions remain unanswered and must be resolved before informed decisions can be made on behalf of D10.

For example, we have sought clarification regarding CPC-ITs who will automatically attain CPC status as part of the TRACON split transition or implementation process. Specifically, we need to understand how these employees will be appropriately compensated and how management intends to ensure they receive the correct pay adjustments at the proper time. These are just a few examples of the many details that still require clarification before we can move forward confidently.

At this time, only one item has been mutually agreed upon: D10 will transition to a three-specialty facility on June 28, 2026. All other aspects of the transition remain under discussion and have not been finalized.

As a reminder, nothing is final until it has been reduced to writing and formally executed by all parties. Until that occurs, all proposals, concepts, and discussions should be considered preliminary and subject to change.

If you have any questions, then please come see me to ask. I do not have the answer, I will find someone who does and get back to you.
